“We are both used to having a lot of walls up, but every time we get real, we feel better and grow so much more as a couple.”

Names and current city of residence: Amy & Vincenzo Landino

Current city of residence: Columbus, Ohio

Wedding date? September 3, 2017

What did you enjoy most about being engaged?

Moving in together! We were long-distance until we were engaged. Vincenzo moved to Columbus from New Haven, Connecticut to build a life together.

What event do you remember best from your engagement? Any particular moments or events that stick in your memory?

Right after we got engaged we went to a Tony Robbins event called Unleash the Power Within. It was an unbelievably impactful self-discovery moment for two people now starting a life together.

When you were engaged, what were you most looking forward to on the wedding day/weekend?

We were really excited to have a whole weekend with our closest friends and family in Las Vegas when we got to do all the big events: Bachelor/Bachelorette, Pool Party, Rehearsal Dinner, Wedding, Day-After Pool Party. It was jam packed and very easy to look forward to.

What traditions did you carry through to your wedding, or what traditions did you start yourselves?

We aren’t the most conventional of couples, but we did observe a lot of the normal traditions. No seeing each other until wedding day being the most important to us.

Describe one or two memories or individual moments that you remember most from your wedding celebration.

Months before our wedding took place, Vincenzo lost his grandfather. It was a tremendous loss for Nonno to not make it to the wedding. For the ceremony, we had a memorial seat made in his honor amongst the groom’s side of guests so that we still felt we could share the day with him.

What is one way you made your wedding “your own”?

Oh wow... we did that in a lot of ways. Our families are from different states and we felt that we really needed to choose a location that was special to our relationship without necessarily choosing a side. We also love to travel and wanted our family and friends to feel like they could really take a load off for our wedding, which is why we made it an entire weekend experience. We were married in a high rise suite at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, so all the glitz and glam of the city really helped us set the tone of the kind of day that felt true to us.

What is one thing you learned about one other during your marriage thus far?

Vincenzo: I’ve learned how dedicated Amy is to the quality of our life at home. As driven as she is in her work, she shows the same passion for our relationship.

Amy: I’ve learned that whenever I think we’re not completely on the same page, it’s usually just the way we’re communicating with each other and not the intention. We often have a common goal and just have different approaches.

What is one thing that has been a constant in your marriage thus far?

Unwavering support for each other. No matter what the next crazy idea is that one of us has, the other is 100% supportive so that we can truly come to our own conclusions in the most optimistic capacity possible.

What is one piece of advice you have for couples who are just starting their engagement or marriage journey?

Everyone is going to tell you that communication is the most important thing, and that’s because it is. When you get to the heart of every trial that occurs in your marriage, it always comes down to under-communication and lack of vulnerability. We are both used to having a lot of walls up, but every time we get real, we feel better and grow so much more as a couple.

Anything else you’d like to share about your story?

We were both in 6+ year long-term relationships before we met each other. We both thought that the longer you get to know someone the more likely you’ll feel right at the altar. Vincenzo proposed after just 16 months of dating. It’s not time that qualifies our love. It’s unconditional care for each other.
