Mini Memoir: Trevor & Emma

Mini Memoir: Trevor & Emma

“We will always remember seeing each other for the very first moment down the aisle.”

Names:
Trevor and Emma Johnson

City of residence:
Columbus, Ohio

How long have you been married?
We have been married since September 6, 2019!

What did you enjoy most about being engaged?
Definitely the anticipation of our big day. We actually enjoyed wedding planning for the most part—picking out details, seeing each other’s tastes in things—it was all super fun and then got a little stressful towards the end (the whole seating chart thing, etc.). It was also great to see family and friends who came into town for our engagement party, wedding dress shopping, etc.

What event do you remember best from your engagement? Any particular moments or events that stick in your memory?
We loved taking our engagement photos with Emily Schutz—we were really nervous when it came to picking a photographer because we had heard horror stories from people we knew. She put us at ease, helped make sure we felt comfortable and prepared us for photos on our wedding day. We had fun running to make sure we caught the last few minutes of a sunset on a rooftop for a great picture.

When you were engaged, what were you most looking forward to on the wedding day/weekend?
Both of us were really excited to see all of our planning come to life—all the details and the space itself come to life. And the obvious—seeing friends and family we had not seen in years!

What traditions did you carry through to your wedding, or what traditions did you start yourselves?
We played the “shoe game”—we hope our kids do it at their wedding, it was such a blast to watch everyone’s reactions!

Describe one or two memories or individual moments that you remember most from your wedding celebration.
The day is incredibly emotional, we both took time to reflect during our first dance to talk about how fast the day was going and how great everyone looked. It was nice to have a moment to connect. We will always remember seeing each other for the very first moment down the aisle.

What is one way you made your wedding “your own”?
We did our seating arrangements in a Tuscan-style so that everyone was connected, like one giant family.

What is one thing you learned about one other during your marriage thus far?
Communication needs to be open at all times. It is also important to remember that you are partners and everything you do is for the both of you.

What is one piece of advice for currently engaged couples?
In terms of wedding planning, try to space out payments as much as possible. That last month before your wedding, you will get hit with the final deposits. If you know you for sure want a sparkler send-off, just buy the damn sparklers 8 months before your wedding.

Anything else you’d like to share?
Being engaged is so much fun. Relax and enjoy it!
