How did you meet?

We met through mutual friends, dated for two years and then got engaged. At the time, I was not looking for a boyfriend, but Derek was persistent and patient and eventually won me over.

When was your wedding date?

We got married on May 5, 2020 — Cinco de Mayo

What did you enjoy most about being engaged?

The excitement of planning a wedding.

Aubree and Derek Wedding in Moab Utah by Morgan and Joel Photo

What event do you remember best from your engagement? Any particular moments or events that stick in your memory?

We drove down to Moab, Utah together for a day and scouted locations. It got us really excited and we got to spend the day together road-tripping and hiking around Moab.

When you were engaged, what were you most looking forward to on the wedding day or weekend?

Because we had a COVID-19 wedding, we decided to get married in Moab. Derek had been guiding there each summer for five years, so we thought it would be fun. I was really excited to take a trip and enjoy the weekend with our close families.

What is one way you made your wedding “your own”?

Our wedding was so intimate and simple; we had a short, beautiful ceremony and it was so special.

What is one thing you learned about one other during your marriage thus far?

It is important to choose your battles. Not everything is worth getting frustrated about.

What is one piece of advice for currently engaged couples?

Enjoy being engaged. Enjoy your wedding day because it only happens once. Don’t keep looking ahead—just enjoy the journey.
