Collaboration is the key to a successful wedding. All of your vendors feed off one another for inspiration and timing to provide a seamless wedding day. Involving a designer that can provide customization to your invitation suite and day-of stationery can be an elegant & personal little touch.
My advice for couples considering custom stationery is to convey special, personalized details through your invitation design. Here are some ways you can make your invitation a true representation of you and your wedding day:
- Custom monograms
- Custom illustrations that match your bouquet or venue
- Custom calligraphy
- Color palette
- Content & wording

how to work with a stationery designer
When I begin working with a new couple, it is so important to get to know them and understand their vision for their wedding. People usually come to me after major wedding planning items have been checked off their list: budget, date, location, venue, guest count, wedding style, colors, photographer, videographer, planner, band or DJ, florist and maybe even the dress. This is a great advantage — all of these things help set the mood for your invitation suite and will tie everything together.
At the beginning of the process, we discuss your wish list of personalized details and create (or add to) your wedding day mood board. The mood board can include invitation design examples, decor, colors, style and wording examples to match your aesthetic. For example, if you describe the day as “modern, romantic and fresh” that provides a great insight into your theme and your designer can better convey this in the invitation suite.
We discuss and select wording for the invitation and consider tone as it relates to your day. We also discuss print techniques like letterpress or gold foil that can elevate and add to the overall aesthetic of your invitations.

The next step is the design process. I provide couples a few invitation options and they select the option that will then set the tone for remaining pieces that come together to create a final invitation suite.
And don’t forget that place cards, seating charts, programs and any additional day-of items are just as important, so that every little printed item is intentional and specifically unique to your big day.
