Mini Memoir: Eunice & Christopher

Mini Memoir: Eunice & Christopher

“We are most looking forward to evolving our love for each other. Although we envisioned a grand celebration with our loved ones, the most important thing is our marriage, not the big wedding.”

Names:

Eunice Flores from Bergenfield, NJ and Christopher Jonathan Borja from Union, NJ

Currently Reside:

Bergenfield, NJ

How long have you been engaged thus far?

We got engaged on October 10, 2019 and will have been engaged for 10 months this August.

What have you enjoyed most about being engaged?

Being surrounded by our loved ones from both sides. So far, we were thrown a surprise engagement party in December, and we organized a Meet-and-Greet for our bridal party in combination with a “groomsmen draft” in March. Each event was memorable not just for us, but for them, too.

What are you most looking forward to during your engagement?

We are most looking forward to evolving our love for each other. This quarantine has rushed our living situation for the better. We weren’t set on an exact date or location for moving in together, but it definitely fell into place for the best. We are now learning so much about each other’s habits, food preferences, and pet peeves!

What are you most looking forward to on the wedding day or wedding weekend celebration?

Reciting our vows to each other. We are both excited to be married regardless of any restrictions caused by social distancing. We agree that although we envisioned a grand celebration with our loved ones, the most important thing is our marriage, not the big wedding. We look forward to what October 8, 2020 will look like, and will be even more excited to perhaps celebrate our one year anniversary/vow renewal with everyone.

What traditions are you carrying through to your wedding, or what traditions are you starting yourselves?

We are writing our own personal vows to each other in combination with traditional ones. I will also carry on the “something new, something borrowed, and something blue” tradition.

Which section of The Engagement Journal are you excited about using?

I am most excited about discussing and journaling about the “Future” section. This is one part that intrigued me the most because it particularly asks, “what is our mission statement.” This part is so important in an evolving stage of a relationship that will eventually lead  to marriage and especially lead to starting a family. It will give my fiancé and I a backbone in our marriage not just as spouses, but as future parents and overall human beings together for our new family.

What is one thing you learned about one other during your engagement season thus far?

I, myself learned that I can be passive-aggressive at times, and have tried to reason with my voice rather than my actions. His statement exactly when I asked him this question: “I learned that I am marrying a crazy lady.” Hahaha!

What is one way you want to make your wedding “your own”?

My fiancé and I actually won a free wedding giveaway with the Curtis Atrium by Constellation in Philadelphia. Knowing the low chance of winning, we booked a venue before the announcement of the winning couple. A few weeks after booking our first venue, we were in shock that we were chosen for the grand prize.

That left us with 2 wedding venues/2 wedding celebrations. We decided we will have the second reception as a thank you dinner for our guests. It will be a more intimate gathering with a sit down dinner and speciality cocktails. We will give a few thank you speeches and have some mellow dancing as well as line dancing. It also gives our out of town/state/country guests another reason to gather.

We agree that this is one way that our day(s) will be especially our own.
