5 New Year’s Resolution Tips to Improve Your Mental Wellness

5 New Year’s Resolution Tips to Improve Your Mental Wellness
Written by SŌW Plated

Wellness is one of SŌW’s three pillars of identity. Our perspective of wellness, or the practice of self-care, is a movement emanating from the inside out, balancing the intricate relationship of mind, body and spirit.

Everything we do at SŌW supports this journey—from monthly yoga, a Live SŌW Well speaker series, to our flavorful, nutrient-rich organic menu.

We believe these five tips that can help you improve your mental wellness in the new year.

  1. Refrain from comparing yourself to others.
Rather, take pride in being the best version of yourself as possible. That’s all that counts.

  2. Give.
Science has proven any act of kindness to be a mood booster. And don’t we all need that right now.

  3. Express yourself.
“If you laugh, you think, and you cry—that’s a full day. You do that seven days a week, and you’re going to have something special.”  Words from famed basketball coach Jim Valvano’s touching speech at the 1993 ESPY’s. “Expressing our emotions is a natural human instinct and cycles your body to perform optimally.”

  4. Commit to spending more quality one-on one time with family and friends.
For adults and children alike, the confidence that grows with the knowledge that we’re valued and appreciated by our loved ones contributes to improved brain functionality. Think about it.

  5. Embrace healthy lifestyle choices you control, in turn evolving choices into routines.
Surround yourself with good people. Put that body in motion. Get a good night’s sleep. And, importantly, consider how you fuel your body. Remember, you only have one. Eating is meant to be joyful, and a balanced diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables and other whole foods power-packed with nutrients always rewards you. Fact.

Have a safe, happy, holiday season and cheers to a better you in 2021.
