As the autumn days grow shorter, we’re invited to align with nature’s rhythms and slow down.
Today, we’re exploring slow productivity, a concept popularized by bestselling author, professor, and scientist Cal Newport. The principles of his philosophy can be applied to work, creative pursuits, personal projects, or family life. In essence, it’s about doing fewer things, working at a natural pace, and obsessing over quality.
While these ideas may sound like “nice-to-haves,” they can actually lead to a happier, more sustainable way of living.

Do fewer things & avoid multitasking
Start small: turn off notifications for one hour, then gradually increase the time. Silence your phone and disable alerts on your computer for email and other apps. If needed, let your boss know.
Work at a natural pace
Newport notes that we often underestimate how long tasks or projects will take. Build in more time from the start to work intentionally — he even suggests doubling your original timeline. A one-week project? Give yourself two.
Obsess over quality & intentionality
Think of the trend of buying fewer, better things...now apply it to your life. Taking on fewer projects, tasks, or obligations allows you to invest more time and effort into the ones that matter most. Review your answer to the third question above and dedicate extra focus and care to it this week.
