Issue No. 36: Going Offline

On Going Offline

This past weekend, I had the real privilege of going offline and spending time with my family in Michigan. It reminded me how often we’re connected that we don’t even notice our always-online status until it’s gone.

Without digital connection, there’s no opportunity to shoot off a quick quick email (which I did try to do) or open Instagram. But once I fully committed to going offline, a weight lifted. I felt more present, more connected to my people. The moments we shared felt deeply human and meaningful. The memories we made were so special. This is what life is all about.

A connection to the digital world can sometimes take a toll on connection in the real world. Let’s not lose sight of how magical the latter can be — and how important it really is.

Be well,

Action Ideas

Try an Offline Evening

Evenings are when many of us want to wind down, reset, or mentally disconnect. And a lot of nights, we do this with streaming or scrolling.

Take one night this week to turn off your devices or put them in a different room after dinner, and challenge yourself to recharge in a different way. You could try reading, playing a game, having a long conversation with your partner, going for a walk, journaling about your day, reading a few extra stories to the little ones, or even going to bed an hour earlier.
