Think about yourself as a work in progress. Now think of yourself as already worthy of love — no progress needed.
Self-love can be a nebulous concept, especially for those of us who are highly driven to do more and be more. We focus on personal growth, mindful habits, and intentional living — after all, we just wrote our word of the year, vision statements, grounded goals, and aligned action steps. We’re inspired to grow, live with purpose, and do so with intention.
But what if, this February, we paused on progress for a moment and practiced self-love through reflection and journaling? What if we appreciated ourselves for exactly who we are — the person shaped by the experiences we’ve had, the challenges we’ve overcome, the intentional choices we’ve made, and the unexpected life events, too. We can choose to love ourselves exactly as we are today. This is the mindset we hope to embody.
At the same time, we can want more for ourselves. Both beliefs can exist simultaneously, and that’s where some of us get tripped up. It’s where we experience blocks, either through our mindset around self-love or through our daily actions (or lack thereof) of self-care and mindfulness.
Do you relate more with giving yourself love as a “reward,” or have you embodied self-love as part of your daily routine through mindset, affirmations, or journaling practice — regardless of what you accomplished that day?
It may be a bit of both — and that’s okay. We often hear about self-love as treating yourself like you would your best friend. Yet many of us are more compassionate with others than we are with ourselves. Sometimes we’re last in line to receive our own love. These self-love journal prompts are meant to help you reflect on how you give yourself love and experience more of it in ways that truly serve you.
